For those who haven't worked it out yet, here are some ways in which you can send someone a personal message on Multiply:

Right-click the person's thumbnail picture and you get a menu which includes an option called "personal message".

If you are reading someone's posting, click on Reply and you get two options: either a public reply or a personal message.

If you are visiting someone's website, underneath their thumbnail picture there are various options listed, including "personal message".
I have found this very useful as some things do need to stay private.
